White Rock Lake dog park renovation to begin in coming months

A couple of summers ago, we got a peek at the renovations coming to the White Rock Lake dog park. Finally, the project is coming down the pike. The city council today approved the $946,000 contract to begin construction.

The redo will address issues related to drainage, erosion control and parking. But perhaps one of the most drastic changes will be the “dog launch.” The shore on the other side of the fence recently was closed due to safety concerns but after the renovation, it likely will be a major attraction of the park. It features an observation area and stairs that slope down toward the water.

Funding for the project came from the 2006 bond program.

It’s all good news for patrons but also means the park will close for construction March through December, according to the DMN report.
