Fried Butter: Abel Gonzales’ latest endeavor

Abel Gonzales, of Fried Coca Cola fame announced to his Facebook friends his latest Texas State Fair Big Tex Choice entry: Fried Butter. Yeah, you heard right. Butter, deep fried.

When I was a little girl I once managed to sneak a whole spoonful of butter into my mouth at the dinner table — my mom was appalled and admonished me for ingesting an excessive amount of the sinfully rich spread. You just put a little bit on your bread, she told me. Too much will make you sick. Renegade that he is, Gonzales breaks my mom’s butter-only-in-moderation rule, and then, giving the middle one to health freaks everywhere, he deep- fries the stuff. “I know it doesn’t sound appealing,” wrote Gonzales in a Facebook message, “but the end result is like hot bread/ biscuit right out of the oven stuffed with butter.” Mmmmm (Homer Simpson voice), butter.

The State Fair hasn’t announced all the food entries for this year’s Big Tex Choice award, but Gonzales says he expects they will do so soon. We will continue to bring you all the breaking fried food news.
