The officers of the Dallas Police Northeast Division, which oversees our neighborhood, are raising money for one of their own this Friday. Officer Scott Jenkins suffered a heart attack, and funds raised will benefit his recovery. During the event, you can grab a meal with the officers of chicken, hamburgers, sausage links, beans and potato salad for a $10 donation. The event takes place from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the station, 9915 E. Northwest Highway.

Enjoy the sunny weather this weekend and take the pooch for a walk, all for a good cause. Excellence ER Lakewood, 1926 Skillman, hosts “Walk Your Dog Day” on Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon, a mile-long walk that ends with a party with snacks and prizes. The event benefits Making Assistance Dogs Easy (MADE), a Texas-based nonprofit dedicating to helping veterans with PTSD obtain the comfort and care of a service dog. The Oscar excitement hits Haymaker at 1520 Greenville this Sunday from 5-11 p.m. The restaurant is throwing its own watch party complete with a red carpet, prizes for best dressed and trivia and contests all night. The comedic “Funny Money” by Ray Cooney opens at Pocket Sandwich Theater this weekend, running Feb. 24-March 25 at various times. The story follows a humdrum accountant who finds a briefcase full of money and takes off to Spain to start life anew. But then the police show up. Tickets are $10-$12 and shows take place at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Redenta’s Garden Shop at 2001 Skillman will host a gardening workshop on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. During the free event, you’ll learn how to plant a vegetable garden and about the type of foods that are best planted in spring, such as tomatoes, okra, peppers and more. The ladies of Stonewall Jackson Elementary will host a “Mom’s Party” on Thursday from 7-10 p.m. (in a private residence, address given upon RSVP). Mata Montessori hosts a spring planting party this Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. The PTA will provide coffee and breakfast, along with activities to keep kids busy while the parents plant.
