The Halal Guys on Lower Greenville marks its grand opening in the neighborhood, beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. The first thousand people in the door will get free swag, in addition to being entered in a raffle with 10 chances to win a month’s worth of free food. Speaking of grand openings, Mister Rich marks its debut in Knox/Henderson on Friday beginning at 7 p.m. The new cocktail lounge is located at 5012 Miller and describes itself as “swanky.”

If you’re looking to celebrate Memorial Day somewhere other than the classic backyard barbecue, you’ve got some options. 504 Bar on Greenville is hosting a Memorial Day bash on Sunday afternoon with live music from Bluestation followed by DJ Kaotic 1. Military members and first responders will be treated to free beers and brats. If you’re more of a holiday night owl and looking for something a little wild, the Red Jacket Night Club, 3606 Greenville, offers a night of Cumbias, Reggeaton, Bachata, Merengue, EDM beginning at 9 p.m. There’s a $100 prize for the best-dressed couple.

Pocket Sandwich Theater hosts a weekend of Alternative Comedy Theater. Catch the comedy troupes The Victims, Auto-Complete, Hive Mind and Negative Side Effects at 11:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $15 at the door (or $7 with a student ID).

Want to try some new brews? Dallas Beer Kitchen on Greenville will host Texas favorite Revolver Brewing as it presents its Death Ray IPA on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. (go early to get a free pint glass).  Craft Beer Cellars on Gaston is hosting Austin Eastciders for samples of their rare blends like blood orange cider on Friday from 6-9 p.m. 

Looking for a new four-legged family member? DFW Furgotten Friends will have adoptable animals at Hollywood Feed, 2031 Abrams, on Saturday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. If Sunday is better, they’ll have critters at the Pet Supplies Plus, 6060 E. Mockingbird, also from 11 a.m.-3p.m.

See the talents of your friends and neighbors at the 53rd annual Lakewood Library Art Show, on display all month. Around 70 local residents contributed more than 100 pieces for this exhibit, which can be viewed any time the library is open. Vote for your favorite to help name the People’s Choice Award winner.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Church Young Adult group is launching a weekly kick-ball event every Thursday from May 11-June 8. Pick-up games will take place at 7 p.m. in the athletic field behind the church, 6303 Kenwood Ave. They’ll also offer other games like corn hole, trap ball and ultimate football.

It’s your last chance to see the Roald Dahl classic “James and the Giant Peach,” which runs through May27 at the Dallas Children’s Theater. The show is recommended for children 5 and older, and tickets range from $15-$28.

The exhibits “The Extraordinary Tale: Magic Realism in Art” and “Contemplation: Photographs by Gabriella Castaneda Pruitt” continue at through June 3 and are free to visit any time the Bath House Cultural Center is open to the public.
