Canine Commisary to close Mockingbird store

Pet store Canine Commissary announced in an email to customers today that it will close two of its locations, one on Mockingbird at Abrams and one in Plano.

The Mockingbird store will close Aug. 19, and the Plano store on Aug. 26.

The store on Garland Road just north of Jupiter will remain open, but will have reduced hours. Starting Sept. 1, the Garland Road store will be open from 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday and will be closed on Sundays.

lots of expired items on the shelves, dirty floors and not the most knowledgeable employees. went to the garland rd store – nice selection but pet supplies plus is closer and comparable.

I go to Pet Supplies Plus, which is only a block away – very nice staff and huge selection.  Only time I tried to get something at Canine Commissary they couldn’t get the item I needed.

Lakewoodhobo, Jos. A. Bank is already open between Canine Commissary and the bank; I believe Bank took over space that the bank “gave back” to the property owner when the bank space shrunk. Given that the Abrams/Gaston shopping area appears to be picking up new retailers, and given that Hillside Village has done a great job of “re-tenanting” that center, it will be interesting to see how the Commissary space is eventually developed.

Wasn’t Jos. A Bank taking over the Mockingbird Canine Commissary?

This saddens me. I could always find brands there that were unavailable elsewhere, and the staff was always friendly & helpful. Bummer.

Shutting down two stores out of three can’t be a good sign. I wonder if they regret leaving their old Greenville Avenue location.
