As 2021 draws to an end, we look back on a year of challenges but also a time of progress and accomplishment in District 3. I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight just a few of the schools and individuals who have stood out for their recent achievements in the classroom and beyond.

Congratulations to Ms. Ariana Zeb, a fourth-grade teacher at McShan Elementary, who was awarded an Innovative Teaching Grant for the second consecutive year by the Junior League of Dallas. She received the grant for her yearlong essay-writing and photo project, Voices of Vickery, which highlights the diverse heritage of McShan Elementary’s students, many of whom are immigrants or refugees.  The project encourages students to look back at where they came from and forward to the future.

This year’s campus Teachers of the Year have been named, and I’d like to congratulate them all and recognize those from District 3, below.

Kudos also to R.T. Hill Middle School for excelling in the classroom and on the playing field. Hill Middle School’s boys’ soccer team went undefeated for the season with a 6-0 record, winning the District 2 Championship with a score of 7-2 over Ann Richards STEAM Academy. Hill will play  Seagoville Middle School in the bi-district final on Thursday, Dec. 9. [Coach to send final result].

And on the academic side, I’d like to applaud Hill’s 8th Grade STEM Robotics Boys Team for their win at the VIX IQ Robotics Tournament at Larry Smith Elementary School, where they qualified for the state championship. This was the STEM Robotics teams’ 40th trophy. Way to go, Hill!
