The Advocate reported on the new tenant months ago. Sweetgreen had applied for a certificate of occupancy, and when we asked the company about their plans for the space, they said: “No plans to announce at the moment but stay tuned.”

Now, the mystery is gone. While construction is still ongoing, there’s a big picture of a salad in the window. There’s also an announcement that Sweetgreen is coming soon, with numbers to text for updates and information about job openings.

Sweetgreen is moving into the corner space at Lakewood Shopping Center, facing Gaston Avenue. Over the years, several neighborhood favorites were housed there, including Dixie House, Sugarbacon Proper Kitchen and Kozy Kitchen.

There are already a few Sweetgreen locations in Dallas; one’s in Uptown, and another is in Deep Ellum. The restaurant offers salads ($10-$12) and warm bowls ($11-$15).

Since crews have been preparing the space for the new tenant, neighbors have been keeping an eye on the clock. It was taken down in December, though that wasn’t the first time it had been removed. We’ve counted two other times in the past decade the local icon has been taken down and reinstalled.

The clock will be returned to its place, we’ve been told, but it’s yet to happen.
