Lakewood Smokehouse serves traditional Texas barbecue, plus a whole lot more.

Meat plates of brisket, pulled pork and turkey are still a go-to at the restaurant, but the eatery has a large menu of items that feature its smoked meats.

The restaurant’s smokehouse burgers are a meat lover’s dream. King of them all is The Elvis, a burger topped with an onion ring filled with chopped brisket and barbecue sauce.

Or try one of the Texas-sized sandwiches. The savory meats aren’t any less tasty sandwiched between two slices of bread. The Pitmonster, piled high with a combination of sausage, brisket, pulled pork or turkey, is a favorite — along with the Cuban.

Believe it or not, there are vegetarian options, including many of the house-made signature sides, such as the cheesy corn bake, sautéed green beans, barbecue beans and fries. Load those up with meat to create brisket nachos or a brisket baked potato.

“We use the best ingredients we can find,” partner Andrew Golden says. “I’m a crazy person when it comes to quality standards.”

Lakewood Smokehouse is one of the few true ’cue restaurants in the heart of Lakewood. Before it opened, the neighborhood was painfully devoid of barbecue. That’s the main reason John Hall, John Pantenburg and Mike Mullen picked the location in the Lakewood Shopping Center in 2016.

“People have memories tied to food,” Golden says. “If we do our job right, we get to make people happy.”
