In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, residents took to the streets to encourage neighbors with inspiring chalk messages on driveways, sidewalks and fences. Well, the pandemic is still going, and people are taking to the streets in a different sort of way — protesting racism and police violence in the wake of the George Floyd killing by Minneapolis police officers.

Many people may not feel comfortable congregating in large groups at the protests, so they’re digging out that chalk and spreading love outside their homes.

A message outside 5647 Swiss Ave. says, “We must meet the power of hate with the power of love” and “The time is always right to do what is right.”

Former District 14 Councilman Philip Kingston posted a photo of the artwork on Twitter.
