Administrators at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School closed its campuses Wednesday because of a flu outbreak that has caused too many student absences.

The upper school, 3741 Abrams Road, and lower school, 6225 E. Mockingbird Lane, closed at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Extracurricular activities and athletic events will also be canceled, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Classes will resume Tuesday.

School officials made the decision after consulting the Catholic Diocese of Dallas and Dallas County Health and Human Services.

“Our goal is to promote the health and wellness of our student and faculty population during this stage of the influenza season,” school officials told ABC affiliate, WFAA.

Bishop Lynch High School also altered its scheduled because of the flu. On Thursday and Friday, students will complete assignments from home.

In January, 16-year-old Bishop Lynch student Reese Termulo died from rare complications with the flu.
