An off-duty officer from Trenton fired at someone who was fleeing a Home Depot on Friday in East Dallas, authorities said.

Dallas police responded at 11 a.m. to the Home Depot in the 11200 block of Garland Road. Upon arrival, they met a Trenton police officer, who was working off duty in full uniform.

The officer said he tried to detain the individual as he fled the store. The person managed to get into a vehicle on the passenger side, and he attempted to drive away. The driver was able to get out and run to safety, police said.

The off-duty officer fired his weapon once, but it is unknown if he hit the person, who fled the area and remains at large.

No other injuries were reported.

A Dallas Police Department investigation is ongoing.
