Bishop Lynch student nominated for Dallas Summer Musicals award

A Bishop Lynch student is one of a dozen people nominated for best featured performer as part of the eighth annual Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Theatre Awards.

The nominations, released Monday, include Connor Chen for his role as Ito in the spring musical “Mame.” The musical follows orphan Patrick Dennis as he travels from Des Moines, Iowa, to New York City to live with his eccentric Auntie Mame.

Students from Booker T. Washington, Guyer, Cedar Hill and other north Texas high schools were nominated alongside Chen. See a complete list of nominees from all 16 award categories here. The winners will be announced May 9 at a ceremony at the Music Hall at Fair Park.

Patterned after the Tony Awards, the Dallas Summer Musicals awards recognize artistic and educational achievements of North Texas students and their high school programs. A three-judge panel of industry professionals and educators evaluated 63 performances at 60 area high schools to select the winners.
