A lot can — and certainly has — changed in Lakewood in the past 40 years. Yet much has stayed the same.

Today’s residents know what it’s like to live in a neighborhood being rapidly revitalized, as it was in the 1970s. From proposed changes to the Garland-Gaston-Grand intersection to new parks and restaurants, there’s been no shortage of development.

In this WFFA video from 1975, you’ll see familiar landmarks like the Lakewood Theater, plus properties that have been changed or destroyed through the years.

The video posted on Facebook by Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce board member John Botefuhr shows a different time, but as his fellow board member Fred Welsh says, Lakewood is still home before and after.
