Texans Can Academy in East Dallas is state basketball champ

Texans Can Academy on Ross Avenue won its first varsity boys basketball championship this month in the Texas Charter School Academic & Athletic League.

The team, coached by Terrance Wright, won 68 to 58 in Buda, Texas, against IDEA Weslaco in the final. Teams from charter schools in Mesquite, Garland, Arlington and Keller participated in the state tournament.

Texans Can Academies are a group of 13 charter schools that began in 1976 as a school for juvenile offenders, but now focus on helping students who struggle in a traditional high school setting. Learn more here.
