Lipscomb Elementary auction, J.L. Long toga party fundraiser, a polar plunge and more this weekend

The Lipscomb Elementary PTA auction is Thursday, 6:30-9 p.m., at Times Ten Cellars. The free event has a number of items on which to bid, including a seven-night stay at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya, Mavericks and Stars tickets, a West Panama City Beach, Fla., vacation, theater tickets, a Times Ten Cellars wine tasting for 10 and more.

Head to St. Matthew’s Cathedral Thursday night for “The Color of Hope,” a gallery of abstract expressions by Margo Lee Miller. There will be a reception with the artist, who was inspired by experiences in Nepal, from 6-8 p.m.

Robert E. Lee is looking for volunteers to participate in a family literacy night readathon Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Email if you would like to volunteer.

Grab your bed sheets, college sweatshirts and pledge pins for Saturday night’s Lakewood Animal House Toga Party, benefitting J.L. Long Middle School. In addition to food and a bar, there will be a live band, an auction and more. The event is organized by the Friends of Lakewood. Tickets cost $100 each.

Put on your masks and evening wear for a three-course meal at the Dallas Arboretum. Guests will try to solve a homicide during the Midnight at the Masquerade Murder Mystery Dinner on Saturday night. Tickets are $100-$120.

Dive into icy water for a good cause at the Hypnotic Donuts Polar Plunge Sunday at 3 p.m. Hosted by the doughnut shop and held at the Dallas Fraternal Order of Eagles 3018, the fundraiser includes a raffle and heated tiki bar area. Money goes to the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Pocket Sandwich Theatre kicks off the 2018 season with an improvised musical on Friday and Saturday night. Tickets are $12 and the show is at 11:15 p.m.
