The YMCA is collecting food to honor ‘Lakewood’s Mom’ Vickie Thompson

As time goes on, the neighborhood continues to learn just how many organizations were touched by Vickie Thompson. The Woodrow musical, the Fourth of July Parade, the Lakewood Home Festival and Lakewood Service League are just a few of the organizations that were impacted by her giving spirit, who are feeling the loss following her death in July.

Between all of that and raising her children, Thompson was also a member of the White Rock YMCA’s board of directors for more than 20 years. The local gym is celebrating Thompson’s desire to clothe and feed those in need by asking for non-perishable food donations to the Wilkinson Center, an East Dallas nonprofit that helps families overcome challenges such as food insecurity, lack of education, economic instability and unemployment.

Donations can be dropped off through Nov. 8 at the White Rock YMCA, 7112 Gaston Ave.
