Driving around East Dallas this week, you may have noticed blue ribbons, American flags and “Honor Our Heroes” signs popping up around the blocks. Led by the White Rock Partnership, the neighborhood is celebrating first responders from May 15-July 7, leading up to the one year anniversary of the tragic shooting that left five law enforcement officers dead and rocked the entire city to its core.

Neighbors who want to take part are asked to show their support in patriotic displays as well as other random acts of kindness for police officers, fire fighters and paramedics, like dropping off a plate of cookies at the local station or simply thanking a first responder out in the field. The campaign will also hopes to raise funds for organizations that support first responders, specifically charity partner Carry the Load. In addition, there will be a slew of events to honor these difficult and necessary professions, including a flag ceremony on June 14 at 4 p.m. at Flag Pole Hill, as well as others outside East Dallas (get a full list here).

On July 7, WRP is encouraging neighbors to attend the remembrance ceremony downtown.
