Winning the contest, sponsored by the industrial cleaning company Cintas, would mean not only bragging rights but a $5,000 check for Mendez and another $5,000 to clean up his school, J.L. Long Middle School.

Mendez was nominated for stepping up to the plate during the massive ice storm that hit in 2013, as well consistently going above and beyond for the students and staff at the school.
