A mugger grabbed an 83-year-old woman by the hair and punched her multiple times last week in the 5100 block of Ross Avenue. He knocked her down, stole her purse and ran.

Dallas Police Det. Andrew Dilbeck happened to drive by immediately after the crime and see the woman lying in the roadway. A passerby told Dilbeck an assault had occurred and pointed him in the direction the robber had run.

Less than a block away, the detective found a group of neighbors holding the assailant, who is a juvenile.

The robber was arrested, and the purse was recovered.

The area where the crime occurred is known as Ross/Bennet, and it’s one of five areas the Dallas Police Department has identified as a “crime hotspot,” requiring extra police presence.
