The Bryan Adams High School cross country team has won seven of the last nine District 12-4A Championships, as well as produced graduates from Texas A&M University, West Point, The University of Texas, and many other colleges.  The latest group of Cougars include Abigail Cartwright, Yesenia Mejia, Crystal Thalina Salinas, and Eric Hernandez.

Abigail Cartwright has competed for state titles in Track and XC as a junior at Townview Magnet (she lives in the BA attendance zone) where she is currently ranked number two in her class at one of the most prestigious high schools in the country.  She placed sixteenth at the state meet in cross country last year and third in state in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:56.89.  She has been named national elite by Dystat.com.  She is currently considering opportunities for continuing her education at TCU, Yale, Rice, and Dartmouth.  She has won the 12-4A championship three out of four years at BA.

Yesenia Mejia is ranked sixth in a class of over 400 as well as being the Drum Major for the “show band of the southwest” The Mighty Cougar Band.  This is her first year as a member of the XC team and has helped the girls be a force in Dallas area. Crystal Salinas is a junior ranked fourth in her class at BA.  She has qualified for regional competition for three years and is the two time defending 3200 meter champion in 12-4A.  She is involved in choir and DIY (Science Club) where she qualified for state competition for her science project and demonstration.

Eric Hernandez is a three year letterman in Cross Country and Track while maintaining seven advanced placement courses with a 96 average and ranking fourth in his class.  He came out for cross country one day because he didn’t have a ride home and has not missed a practice since.  He is also a member of the National Junior Honor Society.

The trio of Cartwright, Mejia, and Salinas finished first, second and third at the 12-4A Championships this past Saturday at Norbuck Park to bring home the district title.  They will compete at the Region 2-4A championships at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie near Joe Pool Lake on Nov. 2.
