Neighbors consider latest updates to Lawther/Northwest Highway development plans

Plans for an apartment development near the White Rock DART station at Northwest Highway and Lawther have been emerging for a few months now. Neighborhood homeowners are now getting a closer look at the plan, which includes the construction of 325 apartment units ranging from 580 to 1400 square feet each.

Originally the plan called for 350 units.

The White Rock Valley Neighborhood Association, adjacent to the proposed development, has posted some of these recent updates to its website. For example, the latest apartment details are here, plus, developers Post Investment Group LLC commissioned a traffic evaluation; it summarizes the development offers “excellent accessibility via all major modes of transportation”. See the study here.

The developers are meeting with various neighborhood groups. The WRVNA, is awaiting its meeting with developers, according to a June 25 letter, in which co-president Kathleen Johnson asks her neighbors to “wait until our meeting is scheduled to voice their concerns regarding the project.”

Except it is not zoned multi-family. It is zoned single-family and retail. They have requested a planed development zoning and community input is part of that process.

I hope they don’t let these people develop their apartment complex on land that they own and that is properly zoned for multi-family housing.  That just seems wrong.  What about the wood ducks?  Are they going to be allowed to rent apartment in this development?

I don’t think the multi-use option was ever really on the table. Would be tough with the limited space.

So it’s no longer being considered for a multi-use development – apartments only? Bummer.

Probably the biggest change since the original meeting is that the parking garage is below the apartments. We also now have both one and two bedroom units rather than one bedroom only as originally proposed. Proposed rents are $928 and $1,305.
