‘Consolation Island’ comes to J.L. Long May 12-14

J.L. Long's choir students dress for the part in this weekend's presentation of "Voyage to Consolation Island".

My all-time favorite fake reality show was laughed about during an episode of 30 Rock when Tina Fey expressed her disgust at the prospective MILF Island, which somehow paired mothers and adolescents in a goofy satire of everything dopey about TV these days.

So it’s not on NBC, but instead it’s taking place on the stage of J.L. Long Middle School, 6116 Reiger, this weekend: Voyage to Consolation Island is the latest creation of David and Beverly Hirsch (the school’s choir director and her husband) and features a veritable cast of hundreds — Long’s choir students fill the stage and aisles with talent during the show.

Billed as an original musical “quest for treasure by pirates and stow-way zombies along with a few other surprises thrown in for laughs”, showtime is 7:30 p.m. at tickets are $10 at the door. For more information, call 972-502-4700 or visit the school’s website.
