The Santa Fe Trail, which connects Deep Ellum and Fair Park to White Rock Lake, has new signage that allows trail users to see exactly how far they are running, biking and roller-blading.

The Friends of Santa Fe Trail (FSFT) designed and built a series of 11 signs along the 4.5 miles of trail between the lake, Deep Ellum and Fair Park, with an easy-to-read map and distances to certain landmarks, such as Randall Park and Lindsley Park. The signs also show other amenities such as the bike repair station and water sources.

In a press release, FSFT President Brad Grist says, “Some of the biggest challenges we’ve come across include people not knowing the name of the trail that they are using, not knowing where they are on the trail, and not knowing where they can go or what they can find along the trail.”

“By showing the inter-connectivity of the trails that branch off of the Santa Fe Trail, we are hopeful that some of our fellow friends groups will follow suit and proudly show other trail access on their signs in the future. We want the residents of Dallas to know that there are some great trails in this city and that they can access many different parts of Dallas through the trail network,” Grist says.

The Friends worked with cooperation and assistance from the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department and the Park Board, with District 2 Park Board member Jesse Moreno taking the lead on sign installation. Funding for the signs also was provided by area businesses who support FSFT’s mission such as Jackson Walker, Juliette Fowler Communities, The Lot, Dave Perry Miller, BER Financial, HR&A Advisors, Shop Companies and Communilux Productions.
