Rowing teams clean up at national competition last weekend

Rowing against the very best teams in the nation, two crew clubs from our neighborhood made a name for themselves at the U.S. Rowing 2017 Youth National Championship.

White Rock Rowing’s Kaira Lay (Lay Academy) and Samantha Prado (Lake Highlands High) took fourth place in the women’s two-boat. Connor Alexander (Lakehill Preparatory) and Woodrow students Drew Ellis, Andrew Schweizer and Will Schweizer set consecutive personal records and ranked seventh in the men’s 4x, earning fourth overall within the men’s 4x six-boat.

Dallas United Crew’s varsity 1X men’s team came in second, while the men’s 8+ team was 13th. The women’s varsity 8+ lightweight was 21st, while the varsity 8+ was 22nd.
