Happenings: Fourth of July events

The Little Forest Hills Neighborhood Association’s 10th-annual Fourth of July parade, featuring homemade floats, fire engines, classic cars and entertainers, starts at the corner of Diceman and Old Gate at 9 a.m. This year’s theme is “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” and neighbors are invited to Casa Linda Park for watermelon, drinks and prizes following the parade.

The 49th-annual Lakewood Fourth of July Parade starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, at Lakewood and Cambria. “Hollywood Comes to Lakewood” is this year’s theme, and attendees are asked to channel their inner Hollywood and dress up as a character from their favorite movie. Prizes for best costume and floats will be awarded after the parade. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and his wife, Micki, are the parade grand marshals.

The city’s official celebration is MetroPCS Fair Park Fourth, from 4-10 p.m., with festivities for all ages and fireworks after dark. The Dallas Wind Symphony performs patriotic music from 4:30-7:30.

Buy a ticket for Shakespeare Dallas’ “Coriolanus” at Samuell-Grand Amphitheater, and watch fireworks from Lakewood Country Club and Fair Park during intermission.

There are always fireworks at the Lakewood Country Club on Fourth of July. Always.

Why not mention it in this column?

It should be at dark at the Country Club on Wednesday.

I can’t seem to find anything about the Lakewood fireworks display for this year.  Do you know if there will be one this year?
